Making A Logo
Today, I began sketches for a company logo. I have spent this week building out accounts with Twitter, instagram, Facebook, and BoardGameGeek. Soon I should have them all up and running. But they are all missing something - a logo. Every page I create needs profile, and why my smiling face could be a quick fix, I feel compelled to get a better symbol of an official business. What better way than a logo.
I realize I might make something today that I change in the future, but that doesn’t make it any less pressing to try and make something perfect the first time around. A few key goals I’ve set for my logo are to make it:
Simple
3 colors or shades (max)
Looking at it, the company name should reveal itself almost naturally
So why Primogen LLC, why PrimogenGames? The concept I’m working on for my first board game had much to do with the inspiration. I’m sure I’ll share more about the game in coming blog posts, but it has a lot of basis in the use of latin root word origins. This game will be based on a number of races that all evolve from the true first intelligent life on planet earth over 300 million years ago. These were the true first people. Primo for First and Gens for tribe people or race. In some sense this game, this game is also my hope to bring to people the first in a new generation of games.
With this in mind, I’ve sought to create an icon that is representative of both the first people of this game, as well as, the company itself. I looked at icons that represent people, human kind, generations, first, origins, etc. These eventually led me to cave paintings which I found to have their appeal. I also liked the idea of a shadowy figure in the darkness. I imagined the first person on earth peering out into the world and its vast expanse. A world full of potential, a world of endless possibilities, of infinite futures. While looking out, the figure also is looking in at their self. Contemplating what it is to exist, what it is to be alive, and the responsibility of being the first and most intelligent creature on the earth.
